Research Visits

Our reading room gives access to manuscripts, audio recordings, and photographs. Booking is essential; we need a brief research description. We welcome scholars, students, artists, and community researchers.

Folklore Submissions

We welcome contributions of traditional stories, customs, or local knowledge. Our staff can guide you through documentation. All submissions are handled with respect for intellectual property and community wishes.

Educational Programmes

We offer school visits, teacher workshops, and community presentations. Our outreach adapts to different ages and curricula, connecting young people with their region's stories.

Finding Us in Glastonbury

The UK Folklore Archive is in a Georgian townhouse on Glastonbury's High Street, near the Abbey ruins and the Tor. Our location in Arthurian country is no accident—Glastonbury has been a centre of myth and seeking for over a thousand years.

By Train: Glastonbury is not directly served by rail, but connections are available via Castle Cary (15 miles) or Bridgwater (12 miles). Both stations connect to London Paddington. Local bus services (Mendip Explorer) provide regular connections to the town centre.

By Car: Glastonbury is accessible via the A39 from Bath and Bristol, or the A361 from Taunton. Limited street parking is available on the High Street, with longer-term parking at the Northload Street car park (5 minutes' walk from the archive).

Accommodation: Glastonbury offers numerous bed-and-breakfast establishments, small hotels, and guest houses within walking distance of the archive. We can provide recommendations for visitors planning extended research stays.

Our physical archive is open by appointment only. Digital collections are online, but original materials require booking for proper supervision and climate control.
